Hi,

I have 15 computers (XP Pro SP2 with IE 6) connected to a Win 2000 server and used by students so they can surf the Internet.
I need to secure everything so they don't try to change anything in the PCs. I already made alot (Group Policy on the server) but there is 1 thing I can't disable it is the "OPEN" button when someone click on a file link on a web page. When you click on a file link on a webpage you have a message with "Open" "Download" and "Cancel", the "Download" button is disabled but not the "Open" which permits the user to directly execute and install any application found on the net.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Here is what I would do..

first, disable download from

Tools->Internet Options->Security->
Highlight internet, custom level, and
go do download and disable it.

Then

change the registry or disable security tab from

That was it.

I was 100% sure that I disabled the download in the Internet Options and thats why I focused on the registry restrictions.

Simple but I wouldn't have thought about it.

Thanks for your help.
