Check also your add/remove program, Remove any programs you don't know....

Ad-aware/SpyBot can clean it, but some program has to be removed manually if it is installed by hijackers

I have removed all the unknown programs from Add/Remove Program but I am still getting popups when using Internet Explorer.

Please advise what else I can do. Thanks.

Found it

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install

That guy is the devil behind it.. get rid of it. Search from you C drive, go to safe mode and delete that!

Also:
Suspect

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lmu] C:\WINDOWS\LMU.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [yoevtca] C:\WINDOWS\System32\felpqmg.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [farmmext] C:\WINDOWS\farmmext.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Hvfdkovj] C:\WINDOWS\System32\m?dtc.exe

Above maybe created by that nwiz.exe, if you still see it afterward or just get rid of it you dont know what they are...

Another suspect:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CD724D44-80D1-AD70-D148-FB4D81D57394} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\xky.dll

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{20EC3D2D-33C1-4C9D-BC37-C2D500688DA2} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: BTGrabObj Class - {00000000-F09C-02B4-6EC2-AD0300000000} - C:\WINDOWS\BTGrab.dll

Get rid of those two.. BHOs are bad sometimes... and the file name looks weird to me...

Strat....U are the one who told someone to remove BHO AIM toolbar which is aol instant messenger toolbar... start researching what you tell people to remove before you tell them to remove it

go here: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
and run a free online virus scan and go download the stand alone version of CWShredder from http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html
install it and click Fix... then restart your computer and run hijack this again and post a new log and we'll have you fixed up in no time
Edited by krazykat on 01/23/05 02:55.

I still don't believe you guys missed the biggest problem... yeah LMU was part of it.... LMU is part of a backdoor trojan.... by having her remove that and then she shows someone else a new logfile how are they gonna know that the virus is in there if you have her fix all those entrys? after fixing with HJT she has to go in and manually delete some files or it's just gonna come back. Go join the bootcamp at spywareinfo.com and learn what you are doing.<P ID="edit"><FONT class="small"><EM>Edited by krazykat on 01/23/05 02:31.</EM></FONT></P>
Edited by krazykat on 01/23/05 02:53.

krazykat:

I ran the scan on the trendmicro and it found an infected file, but could not delete it. I rebooted to safe mode and manually deleted the file. I also ran cwshredder and that came back clean. Below is the new hijack log. Please advise. Thanks.

Could you go post this log in the malware topic in the forum at www.spywareinfo.com please? Because I am not totally sure what the best way to take care of this is... I see a problem with sidesearch as well as a couple of other things. I am only in training on that site so if you post there I won't be able to help you BUT they have well trained people responding to posts, not people who don't really know what they are doing... and they will be able to fix your problem easily.
PS this is my name over there too in case you are curious

And let me know if you do that please and what name you use over there so I can keep an eye on it to make sure it gets taken care of asap

I had one similar problem today. I found out that I didnt really know how to use spybot. It did remove! I had to purge all the spyware first from recovery or they will keep coming back. Try that.

I also tried ad-aware, HJt manually removed and I had no job. Anyway, I suggest you try spybot again, make sure you purge all the spyware from recovery. Hopefully, that will work....

the problem in this case is a bit of nasty malware that needs a special removal tool and maybe some registry editing..... it comes back because there is a nasty little hidden installation program that runs every time you boot the computer that reinstalls the malware. Google the stuff in the log next time homeflash.... if you had you would have known that nwiz goes with the graphics card..... better yet if you want to really be able to help people come join the boot camp in the forum at www.spywareinfo.com and get some decent training like I am.

Homeflash, krazykat:

Thanks for your effort in trying to help. I decided to backup my data files and completely wipe off my system. My OS is not stable anymore, keeps giving me error on boot up and I really have a lot of junk in there that I need to get rid of anyway. That will definitely get rid of the irritating spywares/malwares on there.

Anyway, thanks for much for helping.

Gadis........ make sure you reformat the hard drive, not just reinstall windows.... I just found out the hard way that some of the junk can survive through a reinstallation of windows....yikes! :)

Just one quick reminder, as soon as your pc is back, put spyblaster in your system. and check your spyware every week or everytime you download a program from the net.
