Windows XP comes with a (sometimes) handy tool called System Restore. When the PC was originally configured a system restore point probably would have been saved, meaning you can roll back your build of XP to that point, which with a bit of luck will have been before your troubles started.
System Restore can be found under Start/Programs/Acessories/System Tools/System Restore. Give it a go, it might fix the problem.
Otherwise, could you post a bit more info, like any error messages you might have recieved.

yeah i know i tried all that and it keeps telling me that it did not succeed.
i keep gettig warnings like "the application failed to initialize (0xc0000005). Click ok to terminate the application." for my scanner. i try to print sometihng and it tells me thats its not connected properly but its allright for behind there. i want to defragment it does not say a thing and does not move. i go to chkdsk.exe and it says "the application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\ulib.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette." i cant even make a boot-up disk....i go to create one and it wont even do anything.
i dont know if that would help but do u want me to make a log by hjt?

It would be helpful if you could shed a little light on what was going on around the time your computer began to have problems. Did you add software, tweak the system a little, delete anything you shouldn't have, etc., etc?
