Hey,
awhile ago i downloaded HiJackThis, and its worked wonders. Virtually all of my popups are gone, and various other problems that I had, including offeroptimizer and enhancemysearch, are gone. I have a question, however. When I use the HiJackThis Analyzer, it tells me I have some files that are Nasty, and others that are unsure or probably nasty. Can I just go ahead and delete the nastys and delete the others that I know are recent and not benefitial? Or should I continue to post on this forum to be told what to do? Thanks! Heres my latest log. I appreciate the help very much!

Hi, when was the last time you ran an HJT scan. It seems you have a lot more stuff than I would recommend having. Obviously the more you use HJT the better you get at understanding what you're looking at. IMHO, if you use HJT alot and you still have this much on your machine that you still need some guidance. I would remove everything on the scan except your Multimedia Keyboard stuff (KBD.EXE). Is there a reason why these things keep coming back? Look in Startup for things to turn off and Add and Remove Programs for Browser Helper, Advertising and shopping type programs installed on your machine. If you have any questionable ones post it here.

Hey Bob, thanks for the reply! I run HJT every day but really dont know what im doing. I just delete the nastys and the potentially nastys that look foreign. Im not surprised that u said my log looks overflowed. the first time i posted, a replier (bruce) told me hes never seen a computer be so overflowed with adware, malware, spyware, and viruses and still be running in his life! im really confused as to what is safe for me to remove. I went to add/remove programs and deleted some things, but for 90% of it im just not sure whats ok to delete. Also, is it really safe for me to delete on HJT everything other than kbd.exe, thus removing everything related to internet, aim, aol, etc? Thanks again!

Hi Brett, I now remember reading those brutal posts. Bruce is very good with sharing his knowledge. Ok, I was hoping you would list the removed programs here so I could see what you've done. Any of the ones you're not sure about please let me know so I can advise you. As you know it only takes one of them to screw you up. This is probably the main reason for the replicating.

Also Bruce had advised you to download three adware removal programs. Did you use them? If not use them now and be sure to update them first.

After doing these things post a fresh HJT logfile and go from there. You really need to get to the bottom of this.

Point: When you go on a website whether it's games or whatever, very often you get a download promt that asks "Do you want to install and run ????????". When this box pops up do not select yes. Always read what it says first. Usually it's for some sort of advertising or Browser Helper type thing. This is how most of this stuff gets on your machine.

Looking at my recycle bin (which has the things that i removed) i see:
windows messenger, web search tools, try aol for broadband, register with compaq, radio station guide, pc tune up and repair, my pcsearch, microsoft plus digital media edition folder, kazaa lite, i tunes, interactual folder, get high speed internet, game channel, easy internet sign-up, finance folder, financial links folder, games folder, aol computer check up.

However, just about all of these say shortcut, so did i not really delete them?

In my add/remove programs list, i still have:
adobe reader 6.0.1, agere systems pci soft modem, america online, aol instant messenger, compaq connections, compaq organize, directx hotfix - kb825116, hijack this, intervideo windvd creator 2, intervideo windvd player, itunes, java 2 runtime environment (SE v1.4.2_03), KBD, Learn2 PLayer (uninstall only), livereg(symantic corporation), liveupdate 1.9 (symantic corporation), microsoft .net framework 1.1, microsoft office standard edition 2003, microsoft plus digital media edition, microsoft visual J# net redistributable package 1.1, microsoft works 7.0, norton antivirus 2004, outlook express update q330994, pc-doctor for windows, ps2, python 2.2 combined win32 extensions, python 2.2.1, quicken 2004, quicktime, realoneplayer, s3 s3display, s3 s3gamma2, s3 s3info2, s3 s3overlay, slyder for compaq (remove only), via/s3 display driver, viewpoint media player

after viewpoint media player, i have 32 different varieties of Windows XP Hotfix (sp2) with different numbers following.

I CAN NOT THANK YOU ENOUGH, IF YOU TOLD ME WHERE YOU LIVE ID SEND A FRUITBASKET RIGHT AWAY!

Not bad, just at a quick glance I see that you got rid of at least two known culprits. With any luck they won't keep coming back. If you want post a HJT today and anther in a few days to see if anything still exists.

Hey, heres my latest log. Also, of the above mentioned programs, are there any that I can delete? I'd imagine a majority are safe to get rid of, right? Especially those 32 different variations of Windows XPHotfix haha. Thanks again...

of these, which should i remove?

I would leave the rest of those programs alone. Especially the SP2 hotfix items. KazaaLite is ok to use also unless you just didn't want it. You have to use version 2.4.3. You could probably do without QuickTime player. Do you use PC-Doctor?

It's very possible that the Compaq installed progams may be containing spyware. See if you need these. Compaq Connections, Compaq Organize, slyder for Compaq. Probably not.

Now remove these, restart and rescan with HJT. Do they keep coming back?
