Shutting Down Error and Another Problem (WXP-Home)

Yesterday, I got a message about the system going to shut down in 1 minute. It says the problem is with lsass.exe. I've run Norton and it hasn't found anything. I've checked this forum for other responses, and the one I found was similar with the lsass.exe, but it didn't help.

Another problem I have is a Messenger Service message from system to user. It has a warning and everything, but I'm not certain if the errorfixer.com page is a virus or not, so I haven't visited it.

Don't use the errorfixer.com utility. That's bad advertising at the least. Please download, update and run and remove it's findings. After that go to Trend Micro"s<a target="_blank" href=http://housecall.trendmicro.com/>Housecall (http://www.lavasoftusa.com>Ad-Aware) and run an online virus scan. After you finish do a fresh HJT logfile and paste it here.

I've run Adaware, but my computer keeps giving me the message about lsass.exe and shuts down and starts back up.
The last time this occurred though, the computer just shut down and did not even give me a message. A black and red bar showed up at the top of the screen, the computer froze and then shut down. Once I rebooted, it gave the serious error message and the two files that were in the error report were:

you have alot of stuff in this logfile. I want to take it step by step. You didn't mention running Housecall online scan. Can you not get online? I think you've got alot of virus' and the online scan could help. In the meantime I'll make up a list for you to fix in HJT.

Read these and be sure there isn't any of these file you recognize. Wild Tangent can be removed in "Start/Control Panel/Add and Remove Programs. While you are there see if you have any unfamiliar Browser Helping programs installed. Any questions please post here before removing. I hope this helps,

OK, I checked all those things and got rid of them. I have not yet been able to run the Housecall program. My computer keeps freezing and shutting down and I'm still getting the error message. Is there anything else I can do? Or should I just reload windows XP?

I am including a link with removal instructions from Microsoft. I hope there is some info here that will help you. You can copy the downloaded repair file to a floppy so you can use it in your machine.

I have had the same problem with the "ErrorFixer.com" and have followed your advice, by running Ad-aware, then housecall. I've also run Spybot. I still seem to be getting these same messages though. I've pasted my HJT log below in the hope that there may be something else that I've missed. Can you identify any other problems here?

You need to download the removal tool for the Sasser worm (and a few other things, but Sasser is what you've got...I dealt with this problem big time back in April at a major pharmaceutical company, and just yesterday with a friend of mine). Here is the link to the download you need, as well as a link to the download to then patch your system to protect it. Also, it should go without saying that you need to run a firewall (apparently you're not, or you shouldn't have gotten Sasser on your machine).

You must run the first program first, and patch your machine second. That should take care of the reboot problem.

Next, visit http://www.zonelabs.com (http://www.downloads.com>http://www.downloads.com</a>) and down load ZoneAlarm, OR, turn on Windows XP Firewall. Also, if you haven't upgraded to Windows XP Service Pack 2, download Service Pack 2 from Microsoft. This should be considered a MUST.

Ack! This is exactly the problem I was having yesterday! I managed to get rid of the constant restarts by downloading some security patches. Thank you for the links about the removal kit and patch though!
