I am running Win2000. The problem is that my taskmgr vanishes after 0.5 sec of opening. Also, a google search on "task manager closes" closes my mozilla window!
Something else is weird in my registry as I am unable to install new turbotax or download cygwin on this machine, which I am able to do on my older machine running same OS version.

Please help!

I have got rid of a few viruses and some malware using adaware and spybot SD. Here is the latest hijackthis log:

I have been examining your log, and started to give you instructions three times. Each time, I would find something more or different, and I am starting again. This is my fourth attempt.

It looks like this will be a two-pass operation.

First pass:

HJT is complaining loudly about your Google Desktop Search stuff, and can not be used to fix it. These have entries in your Winsock file, and are deinitely affecting internet communications. HJT recommends removing these using either Spybot S&D or LSPFix. Here are two places where the downloads might be obtained:

<a target="_blank" href=http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4392.html>Spybot 1.3.1 TX Download</a>

<a target="_blank" href=http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm>LSP-Fix Download</a>

After you run one of these, post your new HJT log to the forum and answer the following questions.
Do you inow what these files are, and what they are used for:

C:\Program Files\CW3\cw.exe
C:\WINNT\system32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\E_S4I2D1. EXE
C:\Program Files\Snooper\snpr.exe

The following four files may be gone when you post your new log. If not, we'll "fix" them:

C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktop.exe
C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktopIndex.exe
C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktopCrawl.exe
C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktopOE.exe

This file appears to be part of the free AVG A/V package. Are you using it?
C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgvv.exe

In the second pass, we'll use HJT to fix whatever remains in your log.

I'll wait for your answers, and your new log.
