I am having many problems that all appeared on the same day. The more time that goes by the more problems that are appearring, which only leads me to beleive thatthe first "infection" was a deliberate door opener for additional related infections.
First: putty.exe is blocked and if I try to run it, the next time i boot up it is deleted. The same goes for the lavasoft adaware installer
Second: My browser is hijacked. About every 50 or so clicks it redirects me.
Third: certain windows support-related websites appear to be redirected to the default search (they begin to load then get sent to the default search... which was also changed, but I changed it back)
Spybot has found and eliminated many spyware issues, but the DSO errors (which i am aware not is a patch needed) and CoolWWWSearch seem to be persistant. I have found all .exe files that were created or modified on the suspected initial infection date and removed them and I have crawled the registry for references to the common redirects.

Any one have an answer for me other than to reformat?

Many thanks!

Are you making any progress?

I ended up re-imaging the machine completely. I figured, in the end, it was less frusteration and fewer headaches than trying to eliminate each root of malware individually.

Sometimes that's the easiest - good luck - thread closed.
