Hi,

Every time I try to run a game with high (3D) graphics, the game runs very slowly and sometimes the pictures do not fully appear. Eventually the game freezes and a bleep noise indicated that the computer has frozen.

I have installed DirectX 9.0c and I have an up-to-date, modern computer with good specs. I have a 128MB video card - NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4400!

Some of my games include: The Sims 2, Max Payne and Mafia.

Can anyone suggest something to get these games working.

Thanks for your time and help!

P.S. Most high graphics internet games also create the same problem, as do a few screensavers.

When you say 'modern computer' what's the spec. I.e. Ram? Processor?

Also are you logged in to your computer with Administrative rights?

How busy is the system when you attempt to play a game. For example launch a game and then when the game loads launch Task Manager; check CPU and PF usage etc.

Here's some of the specs:

Processor: AMD Athlon(TM) XP 2400+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.0GHz
Memory: 512MB RAM
Page File: 194MB used, 1053MB available
Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode

I also have full administrator rights to the computer.

Thanks

Well looking at your spec it would appear fine, although I don't have a lot to do with computer games.

On the Start Menu click Run and type msconfig
Look to see how many things are on the startup tab. You could try Diagnostic Startup to see if their something encroaching upon your games.

Also would you say that when you launch Task Manager during a game (for example The Sims 2) the performance graph is illustrating a high usage?
