IN IE, when you try to "save pictures as"... how can I change the default directory? Thanks!

In the Win98 registry it is at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
In the right hand pane right click on "My Pictures" and select modify. Change the path to your folder of choice.

I have not tried it but I believe that will do it.

Of course, Export the key first for backup.

"um" Is that a foreign language phrase meaning "Worked great, thanks"?

"SHALL I BUY YOU LUNCH IN AFRICA WITH THE WILD LIONS?"
Do I get to be lunch? LOL

Back to "um"...Does that suggest that you did not understand the instructions I provided and require more specific information? If so, which part did you not comprehend? I will be glad to elaborate.

Regards,
Bryan

Well, to be honest, I did not tried it earlier because
(a) You have not tried it before and you were not sure if it would work
(b) I don't know how you got the idea that I was using Win 98 when I am using XP Pro. In fact I have filled it this bit of data but it didn't come out apparently.
(c) Since this help info is not guaranteed to work 100% AND this is not really a life-threatening thing that I must get to, I unconsciously shelved till later before trying.

And since I did not know how to reply, I used "um" as a pause filler, hoping that you would leave it as that. But you didn't. And so, I JUST tried what you said.

My shocking discovery is that the registry will auto amend itself back to the original directory - like an automatically undo. I have never come across undo capability for the registry.

So, the conclusion is that it doesn't work. :P

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

Change the value of the My Pictures string to your desired directory

Wasn't that what was suggested by Bryan? And that was what I did..

Thanks. But the puzzling thing is that after I changed it, half the "save as"s hanged. Doesn't work even after I closed all IE and restarted.

So I reverted everything back and rebooted. Interestingly, the "new" directory is now used for save as and no more hangs - yet the registry is the original w/o modification.

Your original post did not specify which OS you were using and that is why I qualified my statement with "In the Win98 registry it is at:"

I had tried changing it in the past and it worked just fine but I was too lazy to test it this time around since I did know if it applied to your particular OS or not.

I am glad you worked it out though.

Dan, thanks for clarifying the key.

Hi Bryan, pls don't be mistaken.

Pardon my careless language, I really appreciate you both spending time to help solve this problem I brought up. Thank you both of you again.
