When entering Windows two desktops with icons load. The first is the default wallpaper (control panel, display, desktop, background=none) and the second is another wallpaper design.
How do I eliminate the first wallpaper design from loading?
My selected wallpaper is the second.

Are you using Active Desktop for your wallpaper? Then it's probably just down to the performance of your machine. If you have an older system and/or a lot of stuff loading automatically at start-up then it can delay the Active Desktop showing up. These programs could be legit because you wanted them to run, or if you didn't you might want to check for spyware and other nasties.

I've found that to be a common issue when using the Properties of the display and choosing a Wallpaper/Desktop/Background by using the Browse button to a folder other than My Pictures. Usually, if the image is in the C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR-NAME-HERE\My Documents\My Pictures folder, it will be the first/only one shown. That folder gets 'read' before any custom setting as WinXP is loading.
It also contributes to a slightly longer startup of WinXP.

well, actually it's more like .bmp wallpapers tend to get loaded and applied first, and then the active desktop gets loaded which applies .jpg, .png, .whatever wallpapers to your desktop.
just try it: load a .bmp wallpaper, hit apply, then load a .jpg wallpaper, hit apply and then see what happens next time you relog.
Edited by Jyujin on 03/06/05 02:50.
