dial up registry (W98)

this is my first message. Hi 2 everybody ^^
Well i got a big problem, i was doing something using system mechanic n then suddenly this is happening to my internet connection.
The internet connections part from the internet options that is containing dial up and vpn settings suddenly was greyed out ( cannot be clicked or anything ). I'm guessing i had deleted sumthing in the registry or infected by virus. So how can i activate again that properties from the registry?

This sounds rather similar to my problem.. I am using a Speedtouch Alcatel USB ADSL Modem ? (See Password Problem) I was also using System Mechanic when the problem started.

I have tried dialing using Dial Up Networking (I usually use an ICON on my desktop) and am getting a message saying that the modem is not installed even when it is hooked up and I've just reinstalled from the CD.

Is it just a coincidence ?
