With a tool like ResourceHacker, edit the SHELL32.DLL, String Table 260...

I use Win98SE and have Tweak UI installed. On it's Explorer tab I find the option to turn the prefix "Shortcut to" on and off.

Does XP have this?

Otherwise you can use the .reg file found at <a target="_blank" href=http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm>#209 Remove "Shortcut to..." Prefix on Shortcuts</a>

Yes, WinXP PowerToys has the same feature.

XP's PowerToys with TweakUI installs as a program, not in the Control Panel.

Did you compile the script and save the changes?

1.-Edit a copy of SHELL32.DLL, NOT the original and make a backup copy of this file
2.-Reboot to DOS (FAT32) or the Recovery Console (NTFS) and change the DLL with the edited one
3.-Maybe System File Checker reverts to the original SHELL32.DLL, disable it or delete SHELL32.DLL from the dllcache folder

I thought it would have done this....it is the same with logonui.exe. I couldnt remeber how to remedy this though lol. Ive used the registry key anyway as it seems easier.

Thanks Bert, I thought XP had it too but I had no way to verify it.
