Hi,
Been a while,
Machine is W2k Pro, P4, 256k...
I'm trying to have my system serial number show up on the general tab of "my computer" system properties.
There is a tweak that explains how to add the file "oeminfo" to the system folder so when you click the support button, you see everything in the file.
My pc's general tab does not have the support button but it does show some information.
How can I add some info to this area?
PS: Why is there no support button?

To have the OEM Information and OEM Logo show on the Properties page of My Computer requires 2 files, an OEMLOGO.BMP and an OEMINFO.INI file C:\Windows\System [on Win9x/ME, perhaps in System32 on Win2000/XP].
This is a sample from an older HP Notebook, data may not be current, shown for format info. only:
; This file contains manufacturer, model and support information
; that is displayed in the system control panel.
; Manufacturer and Model are displayed on System.General page
; Manufacturer is a required field
[general]
;Be carefully not to leave any trailing spaces after your manufacturer name!
Manufacturer=Hewlett-Packard
Model=Pavilion PC
SupportURL=http://www.hp.com/notebooks
LocalFile=c:\%windir%\web\hpconn.htm
[version]
ProductKey=xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
; Support Info displayed when "Support Information..." button selected
[Support Information]
Line1=You can get information about your HP notebook computer in
Line2=the following places:
Line3=
Line4=- Support and Service section of the printed or online user
Line5=manual. It contains details about support, service, and
Line6=warranty. It includes listings for electronic support
Line7=services and telephone support centers worldwide.
Line8=
Line9=- World Wide Web. You can visit the following websites to
Line10=get the latest information about OmniBook support, service,
Line11=and warranty, and to find out about other types of worldwide
Line12=support services.
Line13=
Line14=http://www.hp.com/notebooks
Line15=HP notebook computer website to get the latest information
Line16=about technical support, including e-mail and telephone
Line17=support, plus information about warranty and support
Line18=programs.
Line19=
Line20=http://www.hp.com/go/support
Line21=HP Customer Care website for e-mail support, technical
Line22=information, and software updates.
The .bmp file shouldn't be very big, about 45KB and probably 256 colors or less.
The CD Key would go in the
[version]
ProductKey=xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
section.

BertImmenschuh,
I know about the tweak you described which requires the 2 files.
On my tab, there is information there already but...
there are no files to be found... and
there is no button to click...
the information is right there on the general tab...
How can this be possible if the files do not exist and there is no button to click?

This is one Key that causes part of the CPU and RAM information to be displayed, could be edited. Editing anything wrongly in the Registry can cause Windows not to run.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\Cen tralProcessor\0
This is another key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\ACPI\ AuthenticAMD_-_x86_Family_6_Model_8\_0
