I wanted to know how I can close a program running from the processes list which can't be terminated when I try because it takes up a lot of CPU usage and can be slowing my computer down. The programs that are running that take up a lot of CPU usage are Sytem Idle Process and Svchost.

System Idle Process is supposed to be a big number if the computer is not doing anything, hence the word Idle in the title, the larger the percentage the better.

There's several instances of Svchost running and that is also normal. My WinXP Pro has 5 running all the time.

Here's a tip, in Task Manager click on Options and then on Hide when minimized, it will be in your Notification Area [renamed from earlier System Tray]. Hit the Minimize button and you can watch the Performance of the CPU, can be helpful when opening programs.
