system restore (WME)

hello all, hope you can help. i can't uncheck the "DISABLE SYSTEM RESTORE" checkbox in the troubleshooting section of the file system. i checked it originally so it would clear all the old system restore data on my hard drive. when i uncheck it now and reboot, the checkmark re-appears. (i've also tried this in safe mode already). it did free up over a gigabyte on my hard drive but i want to enable it again. any help would be greatly appreciated.
