I installed a new Telex USB Stereo headset w/microphone. The Soundblaster Audio PCI 64V card and the head set are both on IRQ 10. Alledgedly this is why at start up windows detects the headset as new hardware and installs it as a new "unknown device". (See previous post)
I understand changing the headset to IRQ 9 (which is free) will resolve the conflict and my problem.
Can anyone offer help in changing the IRQ to 9 on the headset? I can not find the answer with my limited knowledge of BIOS.
Biostar M6TBA Mobo and Award BIOS. Win98 w/SP1, 450 mhz, 127mb RAM (of 128), 13gb HD with 4.1gb available on C:

Try this possibly quick fix. Back up the registry.

go to device manager. expand the Ports entry. double click on 1 of the ports that are not in use. select "disable in this hardware profile". This action will free up an additional irq. Windows will reassign all the irq's appropriately on the next boot. Hopefully this will set all resources correctly.

If this doesn't work. I myself would uninstall the USB Stereo headset w/microphone drivers and then the sound card drivers. Then physically uninstall the sound card. reboot. shutdown. reinstall the sound card. (if you have different free pci/isa slot move the sound card there). boot up. reinstall the sound card drivers (most all sound cards use irq 5 and 9 at the same time. 5 for blaster and 9 for midi). Hopefully windows will set the irq's correctly. Then re-add the USB Stereo headset w/microphone drivers.
