Making .lnk files run automatically.

I'm working on a project that would require running files from html. The most sensible way seems to be thru shortcut files. (Less security holes that way) but the box that says "Always ask before opening this tyoe of file" is greyed out. I edited the registry already so that .LNK shows up in File Types, but if I uncheck the 'confirm open after download' box, it still asks if I want to open or download the LNK file. If I choose open it works fine. But it won't default to opening LNK files. Any suggestions?
