If you don't have it running the program won't hurt any thing and you will have eliminated one variable.

Just make sure ya AV is up to date and full scan done and you have run spyware removers and windows updates and see if that helps.

It appears that it is time to back up/save your personal data, etc (BTW, WinGuides Email Saver Xe does a great job of saving your email and Favorites - not a plug, I've used it), re-format and clean install W2K.
