Hi ! you have been so helpful on 2 precedents enquiries ! I need to create a start-up floppy disk for windows 98 but when i go to start, settings, control panel, add/remove, create a start-up disk, windows asks me to insert the WINDOWS 98 CD-ROM which I do not have ! Toshiba gave me only a recovery disk when I bought my laptop ! what do i have to do and where do I have to go to get all those files for creating a start-up disk ? thanks for your valuable help.

The 'why' of needing the CD is the OEM probably did not install the optional things that are available in Windows and the CD is needed to get them. Usually OEMs put the necessary .cab files from the Win98 folder on the CD into the C:\Windows\Options\Cabs folder on the hard drive, makes them available for a number of things including installing printers and other hardware.

if u need to create a startup disk there is no necessary that u need a windows CD or to go to another site to download the necessary stuff.
u can create a startup disk in win 98 from dos prompt itself.
when ur computer boots press F8 or ctrl key to get the boot menu.now select the computer to boot in dos mode.then put a blank floppy in a: and type the following
cd windows\command
bootdisk a:
or u can do so manually by xtracting the contents of the ebd.cab file in windows\command\ebd
