I'm trying to defrag my hard disk, but several times during the process, it will say that the C Drive contents have changed and that the whole process will restart. It does this every time it reaches 10% completion. I believe this may have something to do witht he fact that my free space amount seems to be changing by itself. I would appreciate any input on what you may believe this problem to be. It would help a great amount if anyone could help me. Thanks in advance.

Usually restarting the computer in Safe Mode and running Scandisk and then Disk Defragmenter will work, keeps programs from running in the background.

Yes, you should have enough disk space for defragmentation.

The way it does is to write your fragmented area in one free area and rewrite it. if you don't have enough free space, it may not be able to complete.

Clean up your temp files, remove unncessary files, make as much as you can and try again..

maybe you want change your windows swap file size to minimal. and do the degramentation. Afte that change it back. Hopefully, that will help you free up some disk space
