Problem on Windows Installer, as well as on Office XP.
A. Everytime starting Windows 2000 Professional,
the following error messages popup
1. Windows Installer message:
prepare to install
2. Microsoft Office XP Professional with Frontpage message:
Please wait, Windows is setting up Microsoft Office XP
Professional with Frontpage
3. Microsoft Office XP Professional with Frontpage message:
Error 2203. internal error.
(C:\WINNT\Installer\xxxxx.ipi -214728703
) Please contact your MIS for help.

B. Similar error 2203 messages showed up while openning Office
Thank god, Office XP is still working.

C. Similar error 2203 messages showed up while trying to remove
Office XP from Control Panel-->Add/Remove Program
1. plus Add/Remove Program message:
fatal error while installing

D. All msi file have similar error 2203 messages, can not sucessfully install.
Windows Installer limps and blockades¡I

Probable cause: once performed Office Update on Microsoft website, too slow,
press the button one more time; plus clean disk afterward; lead to this headache.

How to recover Windows Installer and Office XP¡H

From what you report, it sounds like the Office XP installation has been corrupted. Save any personal docs on Office XP then un-install it (completely) and then re-install it. (Reboot system after removing Office)

My FP 2000 and Office 2000 went awol and I couldn't install them after deleting every file. It took me days to find a proper fix. In the end I found a Windows Installer CleanUp Utility tool which deleted some registry files add/remove and NSW 'wipe' couldn't find.
