HI,

I am considering a first try at re-installing windows after first deleting the entire contents of my hard drive.

I understand all I need to do when formatting is use my boot disc to start up and have windows ME inserted ready for another install. But a work colleague said all I need to do is right click the C: drive icon in My Computer and hit the Format... tab.

Surely this latter method is like stripping a car down with the engine still running.

Which method should I choose as it's my first computer and over 2 years since I installed Windows as a Newb. I reckon there's a load of junk in there which I force fed it in my naivety!

Many Thanks,
Rob.

Use the boot disk, since Windows can not format the system drive...

Yep, do it from the boot floppy. I usually use a Win98SE disk and run fdisk to delete any partition/s [and everything on them] and reboot and recreate partition/s as desired, then boot to the WinME CD if your BIOS allows it to start the installation [otherwise use the boot floppy].
