Hi all
When I try to start my computer it gets as far as the win98 splash screen and then screen goes black and the message "DOSkey installed comes up" and nothing happens after that. How can I get the thing to boot up again without that message coming up. ( as you can probably tell I am a dummy when it comes to fixing computer problems)
Thanks in advance.

When you hear the computer beep during POST [Power On Self Test] hold down the Ctrl key. A menu will come up and choose Step by Step confirmation. Press Y or Enter when prompted after each line and when the computer freezes note exactly what the last line you press Y or Enter on says. It probably won't be the DOSKEY line.

Do make sure that DOSKEY.EXE exists in the C:\Windows\Command folder. It's not necessary to have it running but if working at the command line it gives you previous commands you've typed. At a C:\ prompt type HELP DOSKEY to get more information.
