View Full Version : Profiles hijacked - tools don't work! (W2K)

Recently, my standalone W2K PC has been hit by some strange malware (I think). When any user in the family except the Administrator logs on, a new profile with subfolders called username.mypc is created. username is the name of the user and mypc is the pc name.
All existing profiles (usually a folder called user with subfolders) are ignored. The user is treated as a new user.
I've tried deleting the folders as the Administrator but they are recreated the next time the user logs on.
Norton AV, PestPatrol, SpybotSearch all find nothing. PC Mag's StartupCop also finds nothing. SpySweeper finds admare which I quarantine.
This is a problem because the available icons are different and Outlook pst. is not available either.
Anyone heard of this?
How can I get control of my system again?
TIA
Mark

I don't think your profiles are hijacked, I'm thinking you have StompSoft's Back Up My PC program installed. But I could be wrong.

Brady,
Thanks for the post, but I've never installed this program. Sounds like a backup program to avoid, if it pulls that kind of stunt!!!!
