Windows Explorer left pane (W98)

When I run windows explorer the left pane remains blank gray.
In "View", then "Explorer Bar" the "Folders" is checked

I get this too in Windows Me; I've just reinstalled everything and ran Windows Update - now the 'Folders' Explorer bar pane is blank...

If the 'Search' toolbar button is pressed the search explorer bar appears, then if the 'Folders' toolbar button is pressed the search explorer bar is still visible and active...

Anyone any ideas how to fix this?

Please install or reinstall IE 6 it will help.
It was a case in my situation
