Active X Component Disabled? (All)

I've run into a few computers with the folloing problem: They're loaded up with Adware/Spyware. I remove it using Spybot coupled with AdAware in customized mode. Then, when I try to run any online virus scan (McAfee, Norton, TrendMicro) it tells me that Active X is being prevented from running. I check the security settings and they are all set to allow Active X components. If I try to install antivirus off a CD I get an error on installation and it won't run. Anybody experienced this? Know the fix?

are you sure you completely removed the spyware??

boot it up and run hijack_this.exe to make sure.
and also, check if there are weird files running in the background.

I had similar problem. I had to use cwshredder.exe to kill it. Spybot didnt kill it at all.

Yes, I've run HiJackThis and it did not resolve the problem. I've seen a lot of posts that metion cwshedder. I'll have to try that next time I run into this interesting problem. Thanks.
