I'm running Win2000 on a Dell Latitude C610. Recently, the cursor started behaving erratically - gliding around the screen of its own accord and migrating to the edge of the screen. Once it starts doing this it's virtually impossible to regain control of it. For a while, booting up without the mouse attached and then connecting the mouse stopped the erratic behaviour, but now it just seems to happen all the time. I've scoured the computer for viruses, reinstalled the touchpad drivers, reinstalled the OS, formatted the computer and installed XP instead, updated the BIOS etc, but the problem persists. I've tried disabling the touchpad, and that does put an end to all curcor movement, but it also disables my mouse! Perhaps it's a hardware problem?

sounds more like your mouse and/or mouse port.

I suggest that you try a differnet mouse first, if problem still presists, try to use a serial mouse on a serial port.

You can identify if it is a motherboard problem or mouse port or mouse problem from there.
