Folks,

When booting up into windows NT Server I am getting the error that windows NT could not start because the \winnt\system32\config\system file is missing or corrupt.
I have tried to do a repair but it cannot find any installation of NT.
I have also tried booting into dos and renaming of the system directory to system.old but it comes up that it is an invalid drive specification.

Any help on this would be much appreciated because there is some essential software on the machine.

The problem isnt the system directory, it is the system file, which is part of the registry. There may be a system.sav file in the same directory, but unless you have been making registry backups, it will be the original one from when you installed NT. If you dont have a backup of the system file, you will need to reinstall.
