Hello.

I'm trying to install remote clients from the Spyware Doctor Enterprise and I get this error when I try to install clients in some computers:

Failed to create directory {\\computer1\admin$\EMClient\}. Reason - {Windows OS Error: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.}

I don't know how to specify user and password, if that is what I have to do.

Thanks.
David

Hello David,

Please make sure you check the following:

1. File/print sharing are active on the server and client workstation(s).

2. The default admin$ permissions on both machines have not been modified.

3. DNS (including reverse lookup) must also be configured correctly on at least one server in the domain for proper communication with the client machines.

4. If XP's built in firewall on the applicable client workstation(s) is active, please temporarily disable it (to further isolate the problem) and then reboot the workstation(s).

5. Verify proper communication to the client workstation9S) by completing these steps.

A. Go to the Start button/Run, paste in compmgmt.msc /s and click ok.
B. Right click on the Computer Management entry at the top and select Connect to another computer...
C. Load the client computer(s) into the Computer Management console via the browse button.

*If the client computer(s) cannot be loaded into the Computer Management console, you may want to visit http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=840634 to view additional information which may further assist in resolving the problem.

Once the steps outlined above have confirmed to be configured correctly, please attempt to install the remote client(s) again.

Thanks for you message. I think I didn't explain myself properly. Communication between computers is perfect. But, according other enterprise products from other firms, when a remote installation is initiated, a username and password (with administrator privileges) has to be provided. This is not the case with Spyware Doctor Enterprise ... and I don't know how things can be installed taking into account that computers are not under any domain (just a workgroup) and Administrator user from all computers has different password (I have the list). But, because I can't find where to specify the username and password for the installation to the remote computer to be done, the process only works if I change the administrator password from the remote computer to the same one I use in the computer where I'm running the console (in this case, is the same one where the Spyware Doctor Enterprise is installed).

So, what can be done?. How can specify under which username/password you can access to the remote computer to carry out a remote installation (remember, a workgroup of computers around the world)?.

David

Note: What I don't understand is how some remote installation have been finish succesfully without providing any of this information and having those computers different password for the Administrator user ... I'm really confused about this aspect of remote installations and remote privileges ... Please, help, I would need an urgent solution!.
