squeel on phone line? (W2K)

I just switched back from Cable Modem, to Dial Up. (Too pricey). I discovered several problems with the dial up system. Finally had to replace modem. Now I have a squeeling sound on the pnone line when somone tries to call in... I have un-checked, or dissabled every thing I can find that has any thing to do with Faxing, as that is what the noise sounds like, I have an external Fax machine. Even with that turned off I still get the noise so I assume it is comming from the pc, somwhere. Does anyone have an answer for this problem?

i had that problem. found out the modem wasnt working properly, had to buy a new one and the problem stoped
