Recently my laptop went bad. Since I had a desktop computer that only needed a hard drive I decided to get and adapter and put it on the desktop. Since my laptop was an OEM computer the Windows 2000 copy on it was married to the bios. I edited the bios info and was able to boot, but before it gets thru I get the NTLDR not found message. I used an emergency boot floppy that I made for the laptop and the screen for win 2000 comes up but after a little I get the blue screen saying "unaccesibel-boot-drive" etc. Is there any way that the ntldr file could be edited so that windows will accept the new mother board? If I transfer or clone this hard drive to a new 3.5 drive for a desktop could it be edited so it will recognize it (I mean the file edited so it recognizes win2k)? Any help will be appreciated.

If you just moved the drive without reinstalling the OS it won't work. Old drivers + new hardware = BSOD. Even if you try to install it fresh you will likely run into problems. Sounds like you have crippled OEM version. A lot of the default drivers have likely been striped out. It may even be scripted to install the laptop drivers automatically. My advice is to save yourself the hassle and try and get a new full version cd.

PC performance buffs have long measured hardware advances using a few simple metrics: Is it faster? Is it bigger? Does it have more blinky lights?
