A new policy at my company has been set, causing the screensaver password feature to be greyed out. This means that i can't stop the screensaver from requiring a password once it activates from inactivity. I have local admin rights, is there a way to stop this or work around it?

It is group policy from the DC, therefore, your local admin rights will not be able to override it.
Often these policies are put in place for good security reasons. If you have a good reason for the policy not to be implemented you should speak to your network administrator and (s)he will be able to help.
