I'm not sure if this is the cause of not, but after installing Hound 5.0 (I wanted to use its port scanner to see if a friend had any open ports), and rebooting, my computer took about 5 or so minutes to get to the login screen. I know that this tends to happen when Windows has trouble finding the domain. I tried to login, and it said that the system could not log me on because the "domain [computername] is not avaliable."

I've tried safe mode, I've tried going in the recovery console and replacing the system file and the software file in the config folder of the system32 directory. I've tried deleting the SAM file. Nothing has worked, and I cannot login to my computer for anything.

Any ideas?

Okay, never mind. Turns out the problem was installing SP4 (which I actually hadn't wanted, but Windows Update was running in the background). I guess that's an issue. I figured this out after pinpointing the problem to a specific dll and then searching google for that dll. I'm in the middle of trying solutions I found on the web. (I can't uninstall SP4).
