Windows 2003 server, I've been setting up new users for a few months now under AD and have had no problems. No all of a sudden if I set-up a new user and test the account I get the following error message:-

Windows cannot copy file C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Local Settings\Application Data\PCHealth\ErrorRep\QSignoff\ to location C:\Documents and Settings\jblogs\Local Settings\Application Data\PCHealth\ErrorRep\QSignoff\. Contact your network administrator.

DETAIL - Access is denied.

We are using Win2000 PC's with SP4.

Hello again. It would appear the system is trying to copy a profile but can't because the permissions are set incorrect. Check to see what the permissions are on the both the folders in Docs and Setts. If the problem persists try changing the profile path to somewhere else to see if the problem occurs there as well.

Kind Regards

This is on a totally new users though and also that folder lcoation dosen't exist which is very weird. It exists under XP but we use Win2000! And also it's only started happening which is again very weird.

If there's a folder in Documents and Settings called 'Default User' check the permissions. You may not have touched them but a process may have. Usually users require access to the 'Default User' and 'All Users' folders in Docs and Setts. There is another possibility, when something is in use by a user or the system, it locks the file, and thus when you attempt to log an account on, you get access denied.

On the client workstation which this problem happens login as an administrator, open Task Manager, and close any unnecessary processes. Now logoff and try and login again using the troubled account.

I believe the reason it happens to new users is because they require access to the folder. Previous users will have already gained the appopriate files.

It may be wise to review any recent software or patches you have applied.

In fact why not try and delete the folder 'ErrorRep' and whatever it has in it.
