Microsoft Data Access Components Version Selection (W98)

Dear sir, I am working on Win98... I don't know the version of MDAC installed on the windows.. now it is giving the problem... present... data access component is not working properly when I access data using adodb object in ASP. So I want to uninstall present one and install new version of MDAC... So please tell me the uninstalling procedure & tell me which version I should use to work properly... I have downloaded MDAC 2.8 from microsoft site & installed... but, it is also not working... should I install any service packs (SP)

please help me....
