Okay I typed in msconfig under run from the startup menu because I wanted to get rid of the stupid startup items such as the system32 and McAfee. So I "disabled all items" on the startup tab and it changed my startup to selective startup. So, I restarted my computer and I get an old classic style of Windows XP (i'm assuming) instead of the green/blue new color. So what I mean is that for the syles, it doesn't have the Windows XP styles and stuff to choose from anymore, just classic.

I checked everything and nothing was changed. Also, when I open IE and go to something like google.com at the bottom it says badurl.grandstreetinteractive.com which I've never seen before. So I went to add/remove programs and got rid of that, although it still shows up when I open IE. I even changed back to normal startup and nothing changes. I can't get on AOL either...So, basically msconfig has now not allowed me to get on the internet, changed mystyle/look to some old greyish type version of the computer and when I go to network connections I see nothing. I checked for viruses and found none...If anyone can help me that'd be great as I'm freaking out here.
Edited by balla45 on 05/27/04 16:29.

Try a System Restore to go back to a date before you made the changes

Hi,
I am having the same problem. When ever I open IE 6, and try to go to a web site like www.yahoo.com, I get this url badurl.grandstreetinteractive.com on the bottom of the screen and I could never connect. The url flickers at a very fast rate and I get an hourglass too. I am never abe to connect and eventually give up and close the browser windows and try again.
Can any one help!!

I am using Windows ME, and have tried uninstalling IE6, TCP/IP, Network card, and even disable just about everything thru msconfig. Nothing helped, do I have to rebuild the machine??

I have resolved the issue. Here is what I did:
Deleted the Winsock2 registry key from HKLM>System>CurrentControlSet>Services>WinSock2 in Windows ME. Then Install TCP/IP and that fixed it.

A system restore will eliminate this annoying bug in both Win ME and XP.

1) Click on MY COMPUTER.

2) Select the HELP tab.

3) Select HELP AND SUPPORT CENTER.

4) Select SYSTEM RESTORE (or equivalent).

5) Restore your system to a date/time that was prior to when you encountered this bug. You will not lose any recent work, emails, files, etc. by performing a restore.

6) Restart your computer when the restore completes and you will once again be able to access the Internet.

I noticed many are having trouble installing TCP/IP. I found a program that does it for you.

http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html

This has also resolved issues for me when a workstation failed to obtain an IP.

Going back to the first question of this thread, you probably disabled the driver for your NIC/modem. Make sure you're only disabling items that you know for certain aren't needed.
