opening folders from desktop in Terminal Server (W2K)

I am having problem with opening folders, network mapped drives, my computer etc from desktop in the terminal server (windows 2000) logged on through client computer as a normal user. If I double click any folder it seems to open something and then all the icon on the desktop disappear and come back again but does not open the folder. I can open files though.

Could anybody help please.
