I am unable to log in as administrator of Win2k (because I forgot the password I used in creating the profiles) but I was able to log on with a user of the same. I want to be able to reset the Win 2K Admin / User profiles without re-installing the Win2K software.

I have no back up of my registry. ALL I NEED is to be able to reset everything back to default so that I can later reset the profiles or copy the profiles from the network settingds.

I am very familiar with DOS - using the 'DOS CMD'.

What can I do to achieve this?

Have you tried resetting the password through the users applet in Control Panel? Resetting the profile won't affect the password, but if you want to reset the profile then right click 'My Computer' and select properties, click the 'User Profiles' tab and delete the profile; next time that account logs in it will recreate the profile.

With regards to the command prompt you can administer various settings through the 'net user' command.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your quick response. The control panel and properties fuctions are restricted. Only System Admistrator password can unlock it. I was hoping it might be possible to replace the registry files with another Win2K registry default files with no administrative restrictions. If this possible, I dont know what files to replace from a DOS prompt after booting with a DOS floppy disk.

Can you help?

Practically everything on network operating system requires administrative privileges to change things. The only thing I can suggest is you back up your important files and directories to removable media and reinstall Windows.

Any other questions please ask.
