is there a registry setting that can be changed to disable the automatic download of Browser Helper Objects?

The number of search bars and other things that are being automatically installed at my site is appalling.

They shouldnt be "automatically" installed. A messagebox should pop-up asking if you want to install, and you have to answer Yes before they install..... unless you have accidently checked the box that says you always trust the download website...

Well, the user community that I'm working with here likes to tweak the settings and because of some of the software that we have to run, they must be administrators.

So regardless of whether or not you have to accept it - it is occuring.

I'm just looking for some way to prevent it regardless of whether they want it or not because we in the IT department don't want any browser helper objects.

IE Tools, Internet Options, Security, Custom level and change the ActiveX and Plugins to prompt or disabled. Click Apply and Ok.

Try, in OE, Tools> Internet Otions> Advanced> Enable Third Party Browser Extensions, (Un-check it)
