Here's a good question, aren't there ersatz devices in Windows?

I have some hodunk educ software, legitimately purchased, that when it's launched it REQUIRES that the original CD be physically present. There's more than enuf space to put the entirety on my HD! and my superslim laptop has naught but a cumbersome external CD-ROM. aargh.

I've tried everything, but it's no go. No way to define a folder as an ersatz device kinda????

If I understand your question correctly, you should use this program I LOVE called Alcohol 120%. It makes a virtual image of your CD on to your hard drive. This gives the user faster access speeds and removes the hassle of switching CDs. Check it out...

I'm positive you'll love it and I hope this is the solution to your problem.

Thank you kind Dude-in-America. I learned also, from another forum, of Daemon-Tools (free for noncommercial use) and/or WinISO ($30) Alcohol is the priciest. Eventually, I'll get around to trying one or all -- soon. I'm sure relieved that SOMEthing will fit the bill!
