This is a tough one. Something on my XP home box has changed, and I can't figure out what.

I have a regular 10/100 nic and a wireless card in this box. I normally switch back and forth

between them by right-clicking one or the other in Start>>Settings>>Netork Connections and

selecting Disable/Enable as necessary.

Suddenly that doesn't work anymore. Every time I try to disable a connection that way, I get tis

message:

"it is not possible to disable the connection at this time. This connection may be using one or

more protocols that do not support Plu-and-Play, or it may have been initiated by another user or

account"

I haven't added any new protocols and I haven't changed any account settings. Something MUST have

changed, but I have no idea what. I have several services disabled, but I always have, so I don't

think that's it.

One other small thing that's different is this. The XP login screen used to come up with my usual

admin account displayed, along with the white space where the password gets entered. Now, I have

to click on the little pic by the account to get the password entry field to come up. Small thing,

but WHY did it change? Is it related to the network adapter problem I'm having??

I hate when things change for no reason :)

Any help appreciated.

I'm not sure about the first question (it could be related) ... for the second, open User Accounts (Control Panel) and click "change the way users logon and logoff" and check which option is selected. From your description it should be set to the "classic logon prompt" not the "Welcome Screen" option. The change needs to be done from an Administrative Account.
