Links from webs pages wont open (W98)

Hi all
whenever clicking on a link form a web page or from email link, the link wont open.. A new window pops, but it spins and spins trying to open. Often I end up locked-up and have to end the IE task to begin again.
I dont have any issues with Netscape, only IE.
I use Zone Alarm/Lavasoft/Spybot and everything looks clean.
I reset security and other IE setting to default in case something was incorrectly checked .Still nothing.
Then I Downlaoded IE 6 again and reinstalled.. still no good.
It seems as if something is blocking ALL links..but only in IE, not netscape...

any ideas???

Do you have "Check to see if IE is the default browser" selected? (Internet Options > Programs)

thanks.. I checked and it is set properly.. still no solutions seems apparent.. I can click on links on the yahoo main page, but not links found on other sites. I cant even get a link to open from a link posted in these forums.. It just spins and spins trying to open and then I end up "ending task" on explorer....I appreciate anyones suggestions.

OK, here's a <a target="_blank" href=http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;ie&Product=w98>MS-KB</a> article on Internet Explorer to scope out.

One more thought. Has IE ever worked correctly with Netscape installed? If not, that could be the root of the problem.
