Hey, as stated in the title, I have Windows ME, and I'll be doing something small, like opening hotmail, and I'll get the fun white box saying that (usually) Explorer crashed, where I can click close or ignore. If I click close, my computer proceeds to tell me that pretty much everything else is suddenly erroring and I can ignore or close. Is there some way to help solve this error? Defragging?

Which brings another point, my computer (when left alone long enough) starts defragging itself, but has never (in the last year) gotten past 0% in over 6 hours. What's with that? Any way I can fix that too?!

As far as your crashes go, do you have any antivirus software installed? Such as Norton? If not, I would definitely recommend getting one. Once you get one, scan for viruses and get rid of any that might show up.

Your defragmentation problem is common among Windows 98 computers. Simply hold the CTRL key while booting up, select Safe Mode, and boot in to that. The screen will appear distorted and weird, this is normal. After Windows has loaded Safe Mode, run ScanDisk. After you have done that, defrag. This should work correctly in safe mode. After it is done you may restart.

Hope this helps,

Yes, I do have anti-virii programs. I have McAfee. It is highly irritating, be it effecient. Thanks for the help with the Defrag thing! I'll try it this afternoon!
