View Full Version : Networking Issues (LinkSys) (WME)
Hey all, I'm having a bit of a problem with my LinkSys wireless router. I can't connect to anybody over AIM (I have Tiny Personal firewall, but I could connect to people before I got the router and had the firewall) and I have extremely slow download speeds. I tried to fix the router, so I had a static IP, but I can't access the page because nobody in my family knows the password. So, my question is:
Is there any way for me to find the password out. Any way at all? Because this 2.3 kb/sec is really pissing me off! I know it's not the connection, because before the router I got around 120 kb/sec and nothing has changed since then...just the router.
Thanks for the help!

All residential routers have resets that will reset the system to factory defaults, including the password. This may also reset any settings that are blocking the AIM traffic. If the packet filter is enabled then it may induce some overhead that slows the connection. The reset will turn it back off and clear the filter rules table.
Check the Linksys website for the manual for your model router. It will tell the reset procedure and the default password.

Linksys default password is 'admin', and the username is left blank.

The reason you are not connecting to AIM is due to lost packages over your WLAN... I had this issue with a D-Link router... The internet seems to work fine, and web pages seem to load great, but to stay connected to AIM you need a seemless connection.
I have also had issues with mine (WMP54G) in the past...
I had a power outage and the router's firmware got corrupted.
First thing you should do is upgrade the firmware.. instructions are on the linkys site.
Good luck...
