I had some old equipment lying around and decided to make a system for my mother-in-law. Win 95 was originally on the system so I wanted to clean it all togather and install Win 98. I fidsked and fromatted the drive. After the system scan disked it said "Copying Windows setup files" at this point the sytem freezes. I've tried reinstalling 95 and get the same result. What did I do or what did I miss?

The system was working fine before you erase all of the contents?

Maybe bad memory chips or the CPU fan doesn't work correctly...

I added up to 40 megs of mem that I had hanging around and the memory test checks out fine. I'm lost!

Where did you test the memory?
Maybe the memory speed, the latency, etc. are incompatible with the mainboard and/or the other memory...

At boot-up wouldn't something stall if the memory was messed up? Instead everything runs fine until the windows setup files start to copy over.

What do you mean with "everything"?
Did tou try the install without the memory that you installed? Maybe the fan of the CPU is broken and the processor overheats...
