I have a PC that won't allow me to FDISK- says there are no fixed disks. ALSO- It gives me a message that a "Divide Overflow Error" has happened. How do I fix all this?? Thanks!

Does the BIOS correctly recognize the disk name and size?

So. The first thing you need to accomplish is get the BIOS to see the drive. Have you been through the checklist:

1) Does the drive power on? Do you here the platters spin up? Do you hear the head click through its startup sequence?

2) Are the IDE cables oriented properly? Both on the motherboard and the drives?

3) Are the jumpers on the drive configured properly?

4) Are the IDE channels set to Enable in the BIOS' "Advanced Features" or "Chipset Features" pages?

5) Are the channels in the BIOS set to "Auto" and not "User", "User Define", or "Not Installed"?

6) Is it one particular drive that is not recognized or do all hdd's installed in the computer fail to show in the BIOS?

So, if you can put in different hard drives and none of them are recognized despite the fact they work in a different system, all BIOS settings are OK, and the cables are good and installed correctly...that only leaves dead IDE on the motherboard. Sorry.
