Recently I had rearranged my computers in my house, and now my PC is unable to connect to my workgroup.

I tried running the 'set up a home or small office network' wizard again, selected "this computer connects directly to the internet or via a network hub.." as my computers are hooked up via a router, but it still does not work. I can't even seem to access the local computer.
on clicking 'view workgroup computers' i get the error "Home is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource..."
also, i seem to be unable to accept incoming requests even from over my LAN.

i encountered this problem before, but it seemed to work after a few tries. now, however, it still does not work even after many tries. anyone know the problem?

I'm having the same problem. I'm trying to network two XP machines, one with Pro and one with Home. Please let me know if you find a resolution. Thanks!

are your computers on the same subent? eaxample computer A IP address 192.168.1.x and computer B 192.168.1.x with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. You will have to assign a static IP address to the NIC connecting the two computers unless you have a DHCP server running somewhere on your network. This DHCP server is going to be in your cable router more than likely. Also make sure the computers are in the same workgroup. In some cases you are going to have to add the computer to the trusted zone of your firewall if you have one.

Go to the command prompt
1. Type ipconfig /all to check the ip address. write the ip address down from each machine and make sure they have the same 1st the octets for ex. 192.168.1 and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.
2. Then ping each computer with the ip address from the other for ex.
Computer A = 192.168.1.100
Computer B = 192.168.1.110
From Computer A type ping 192.168.1.110
If you get an error the your computers don't see each other.
email me and i will help with the troubleshooting

Just as a note to remember............XP Home and XP Pro are different. There are differences in protocol stacks namely TCP/IP that make them different. As a suggestion to try.......try making the XP Home the dominant PC as in, where the internet comes in to and the sharing takes place. To restate, have internet come into XP Home and from that PC share to XP Pro PC. Hope this helps.
