Hi friends ,
I've a very serious trouble in my system .. This trouble happens when I want to restart my computer ... Once I click "Restart" in the drop-down menu , the computer shuts down instead of restarting .. Thus , I've to turn the computer on once again repeatedly in each time I want to restart my computer . That's really so annoying and I'm completely disappointed to have such a trouble which I'm unable to solve ... All I know that there is a key in the registry responsible for controlling the PC shut down and restart processes , but I'm not sure which one it is .... I hope you help me solving this problem as soon as possible , please ....
Thank you all ....

Hi unknown634,
Thanks for doing your best to help me . But , unfortunately , the links you put are illustrating the Shutdown and restart troubles in general and thus , those articles never helped me solving my trouble .... Also , you've to take in consideration that I'm using Windows Millennium not Windows 98 .. Moreover, I've no trouble in my hardware to have such a trouble . My only trouble is that my Computer is shutting down instead of restarting when I click " RESTART " .. I hope you explain me yourself how to fix this trouble ... Thanks again and bye

Try running System File Checker...I had a problem similar to this and I think this's how I fixed it.

Go Start>Run type SFC and hit Enter.

You might need your Win98 CD, so have it handy.

After finishing, it will more than likely ask you to reboot, so also be ready to do that. After the reboot, try to reboot and see if it does it right.

Hope that helped,

Hi unknown634,
Thanks sooooo much , I could finally fix this trouble when I read the article you sent me concerning windows me shutdown troubles at Microsoft website .... I went to ( Start >> Run ) then wrote ( msconfig ) , chose ( Selective Startup ) and chose only one or two of its sub options .. After I'd restarted my computer , I adopted the same steps , chose ( Normal startup ) and restarted my computer once again . Now everything is ok ......
