My work laptop runs Windows XP Pro and belongs to my company's domain.

My home computer runs Windows 98.

I'd like to be able to network the two computers when I have the laptop at home, but I can't see the Win 98 machine when I do a Find Computer on the XP Explorer. This used to work with my previous laptop (Win2K, non-domain).

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jerry

Can you ping the 98 machine from the xp machine?

Also do you have separate hardware profiles for work and home?

Use the same ip adress for home computer as your laptop except to change last number to one more eg: 192.168.1.1 - laptom
192.168.1.2 - home
on home adjuste same workgroup (not domain) as is on Laptop, enable File and printer sharing on home and on home use same username and password for loging onto computer. use crossover cable for direct connection between computers and normal utp cable if you use switch at home. Regards

What is the subnet mask of both machines?

As usual 255.255.255.0
ex ip: 192.168.1.101 with subnet 255.255.255.0,
Not sure, but you can check can you use different subnet mask like 255.200.200.100, but subnet mask must be exectly the same on both computers:
I also suggest using tweak guide here about faster browsing the winxp network
