I am using Windows 98 (Second Edition) and seem to have a problem with some icons. One is with a program called WebMenuShop.exe, with RealDraw.exe (version 3, though it was a trial copy) and with Dreamweaver.exe (DreamweaverMX). Instead of showing the particular branded logo icon particular to each program, it shows the default icon for a program: the dull blue & white box! The strange things is that if I right-click on the icon and choose property then tick or untick Read Only or Archive the icon automatically comes back. So, what's happening?
So far, I haven't noticed any other changes to other programs icons.
Note: This ticking of Read Only/Archive in the General tab of file property only works temporarily. At restart the icon has gone back to the boring program default icon provided by Win98!
Anything to do with the registry, is it a virus or is there a simple answer?
PS: in your answer, please consider that I am new to this forum and to forums in general.

It could be the easily corruptable shelliconcache file.

To replace it simply restart in Safe Mode (doing so deletes it) and then restart in Normal mode (doing so replaces it).
